Draft Writer Role has destructive powers

I'm seeing other similar feature request comments. DraftWriter can change category status (Internal, private, public) <-- this means a newbie can tank your entire site with 2 clicks.
They also can add/Del from glossary. Duplicate categories (and articles within). I can't imagine how this behavior is OK. We need either a new ROLE or restrict the Draft Writer privileges ASAP.

Hey everyone,
I did improvements on Draft Writer role.
Restricted:
Article Planner - (Should only able to delete the articles created by the user.)
Article Redirects - (Should not be able to delete and edit, and the page to manage redirects isn't accessible)
Article Links - (Should not be able to delete or replace article links.)
Article Feedbacks - (Should not be able to resolve and reply)
Enabled:
Access to Importing options (Except the VIP Import)
If you spot anything unusual please let me know.

Thanks Edi for eventually getting these updates on the roadmap and completed. I didn't see any mention of the role's previous ability to change category status or duplicate entire categories.

Category Deletion Approval

We had a user accidentally delete a category which delinked a bunch of documents. Since we have no way of setting limitations on what users can do, we ask that any category deletions go through a verification process in which a Collaborator tries to delete a category and Admins are notified so we can approve or deny this. It will save a lot of frustration and extra work.

These seem like privileges that should be assigned to an admin or an alternate role. It would appear that instead of "Draft Writer" we need "Draft Creator" and "Draft Editor"

I agree - we've actually opted out of using the Draft writer role because it was giving those people way more control over our KB than we were comfortable with them having.
I feel like the roles should follow the Article Planner.
For example, the Draft Writer role should be just that - a user with the ability to draft changes to existing or create drafts of new articles. Anything they create goes into the Draft Articles column and that's the extent of their role, without the ability to rearrange, delete, or change access levels to categories or articles. This is incredibly helpful especially when integrating with something like Zendesk or Freshdesk where Support agents (and not writers) may be submitting content that needs to be edited and/or verified before actually being published.,
From there, a different role (perhaps Reviewer) should have the ability to move articles from Draft Articles to Articles in Review. Giving this role the ability to leave in-line comments (a great feature that currently exists but is kind of unusable due to the issue with the Draft Writer role), improving the review process without giving more people a certain level of control over the KB than is comfortable. This could definitely be resolved with a custom user role.
Then, the Collaborator role (and higher) should have full control over the content; ability to create, edit, review, publish, and change access levels.

A custom user role has already been requested: That'd work too but I'm requesting the bare minimum. https://helpjuice.canny.io/feature-requests/p/custom-user-roles-ie-admin-author

Eldon, this is a big problem for us as well. Imagine 300 new internal employees getting added? This would reck the site overnight. We need the ability to create a custom role and choose what groups have what options. IMO Draft writers would only be able to draft a KB which would then be sent to the next level up for approval and publishing. With different companies having different opinions on the role, it makes sense allowing a custom setting be set per role.

I have been running into this issue as well and was going to create a suggestion. I need to control what draft writers can create and also what they can edit. I don't want draft writers creating a hundred new categories, editing existing categories, and I also don't want them going into another department's category and editing articles that don't belong to them. Right now, we're running on the honor system, but have already had issues with people editing what they shouldn't and creating unnecessary categories

Yes our company uses this role a lot and it would be nice to restrict access a little more for this role. What we envision is for the draft writer to be able to create new articles, edit/delete articles that they are an author of or marked as a collaborator. Our draft writers are marked as such because they are not in the system as often as a collaborator or admin. Giving them more specific access will help ensure they don't accidently delete something they are not familiar with.

we don't use this role very much, but if we ever did this sounds like a big gap. Upvoted
